Supplier

Becoming a KARL STORZ supplier

Any company, or organisation wanting to partner with us needs, to go through our Supplier Qualification Process. This process evaluates our potential partners for the supply of products and services according to criteria of competitiveness, risk and product group strategy and, following a positive assessment, approves them. From this, we then determine the necessary measures to start the collaboration and fulfill the binding requirements of our guidelines.

In the area of components and finished products, we are looking for high-performance partners in the following product groups:

  • Semi-finished products (e.g. pipes, profiles, flat or solid material)
  • Precision, injection-molded and die cast parts
  • Ceramic parts
  • DIN and standard parts (e.g. screws, wire/mesh, ball/bearings, seals, springs, etc.) (DIN = German Institute for Standardization)
  • Electromechanical components and assembled printed circuit boards
  • Housing (plastic and metal)
  • Optical parts
  • Turned and milled parts
  • Laser, punching and water jet parts
  • External processing (e.g. assembly, coating, grinding, polishing, etc.)
  • Medical instruments and devices
  • Packaging

Of course, we are also interested in various services and indirect materials. Please use the corresponding link for self-registration:

Our suppliers are expected to meet the following requirements:

  • Structural and logistical focus on global delivery capability at all international KARL STORZ locations
  • High competitiveness in terms of price, quality, adherence to deadlines and flexibility
  • Permanent willingness to reduce costs and increase transparency and productivity
  • Fulfillment of all current quality requirements
  • Innovative strength, continuous product, and process improvements

Overall, KARL STORZ expects its suppliers to take all of the above points into account throughout the entire value chain.

Template for significant Supplier Change Requests

If KARL STORZ is considered to be a legal manufacturer for the product or components, that means the supplier manufactures products on the basis of the specifications of KARL STORZ, we are responsible for evaluating changes in the manufacturing processes and design changes used at the supplier's premises. Part one of the template is to be completed for any changes to products or significant changes that require notification and approval. To establish a consistent understanding for the term “significant”, this is defined as all changes which are subject to notification and approval.

These include:

  • Deviations from specifications or function
  • Deviations from purchasing information
  • Deviations from production processes and test methods
  • Changes in materials or raw materials, tooling
  • Changes in subcontractors that significantly influence product quality and safety
  • Relocation of the Supplier’s manufacturing sites or systems and machines
  • Other measures that may affect product safety and performance

Please submit your change requests to us in good time with a lead time of at least 3 months. If you as a supplier are the legal manufacturer, we also require information about your changes. Please document these with us accordingly.

If you have any questions, please contact your responsible purchaser.

Non-disclosure agreement (NDA)

We consider a formal non-disclosure agreement to be a prerequisite for trusting cooperation. Contract law is a pillar of confidentiality protection. If you still require any legal clarifications, please contact NDA@karlstorz.com.

KARL STORZ attaches great importance on acting ethically and responsibly. Therefore, we need people who do the right thing and make responsible decisions every day. This is why we need people to do the right thing and make the right choices every day. This applies to everyone equally - employees and suppliers alike. Each one of us must base our actions on the law, internal policies, voluntary commitments, and ethical principles. Without exceptions. So illegal deals and activities are unacceptable – all over the world.

This attitude is also reflected in our corporate culture. Integrity is an important building block here, because we at KARL STORZ are trustworthy and remain loyal to our own values. That is why we have drawn up a COC that states that we act honestly, legally compliant, committed and responsibly. We also expect our partners to adhere to this internationally binding code of conduct. We will agree this with you before the start of our business relationship.

Before starting our business relationship, you can already read through our Code of Conduct:

In summary, this law, which came into force on January 1, 2023, regulates corporate responsibility to comply with human rights in the global supply chain and to protect the environment. It affects German companies with more than 3,000 employees, applies to all subsidiaries abroad and requires companies to establish appropriate and effective risk management that is integrated into all relevant business processes and includes direct and indirect suppliers.

The purchasing-specific activities for risk minimization are closely linked to the “supplier onboarding” and “contract awarding decision” processes. An essential element for risk assessment is to visit new and existing suppliers before award decisions are made, because contracts or internet presence alone is not enough to identify human rights violations or environmental pollution.

If there is sufficient evidence of a violation of a human rights or environmental obligation by an indirect supplier, a specific visit and a specific risk analysis is carried out in order to identify, evaluate, communicate potential risks and, if necessary, demand corrective measures. If these are not implemented, the business relationship may be terminated.

What potential risks should you pay attention to when visiting suppliers?

  • Prohibition of child labor or the worst forms of child labor
  • Prohibition of forced labor and all forms of slavery
  • Prohibition of disregard for occupational safety and freedom of association
  • Prohibition of unequal treatment
  • Prohibition of withholding an appropriate wage
  • Prohibition of damage to the basis of life (food, drinking water, sanitary facilities)
  • Prohibition of unlawful eviction
  • Prohibition of the use of security forces without sufficient supervision
  • Ban on the production and use of mercury or mercury compounds in manufacturing processes
  • Prohibition of the production and use of persistent organic pollutants or the non-environmentally sound handling of these substances
  • Ban on the export or cross-border shipment of hazardous waste

For detailed information on risk management, please see further information here: Sustainability & Compliance
