KARL STORZ Launches New Endoscopic NIR/ICG Fluorescence Imaging System to Enhance Minimally Invasive Surgery Techniques

24/10/2016

System Provides Real-Time Endoscopic Visible and Near-Infrared Fluorescence Imaging

El Segundo, CA (October 24, 2016) – Karl Storz Endoscopy-America, Inc., a leader in endoscopy, imaging and operating room integration solutions, is pleased to announce the launch of NIR/ICG Imaging as an extension of its IMAGE1 S dynamic camera architecture. The KARL STORZ NIR/ICG Imaging System enables surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery using standard endoscopic visible light as well as an enhanced visual assessment of vessels, blood flow and related tissue perfusion, using near-infrared (NIR) imaging.

“The use of NIR imaging helps to expand the surgeon’s current diagnostic spectrum. This enhanced capability assists them in assessing tissue and organ perfusion, as well as visualizing the bile duct during cholecystectomy,” says TJ Quigley, Group Marketing Manager, Video. “The new KARL STORZ NIR/ICG Imaging system is then used to fluorescently excite indocyanine green (ICG), allowing rapid identification of the biliary system anatomy and reducing the risk of anastomotic leaks.”

The IMAGE1 S system helps enable surgeons to overcome visualization hurdles and perform better surgery. In addition to simplifying complex surgical conditions, the S-Technologies CHROMA and CLARA, and now the NIR/ICG Imaging System can help minimize waiting time. And, with their modular design, these future needs of a fluorescence imaging system are handled through simple, cost-effective upgrades. This offers further proof of our support of standardizing without compromising, which also provides hospitals the lowest Total Cost of Ownership!

Key components of the KARL STORZ NIR/ICG Imaging System include: rigid NIR/ICG endoscopes for visible white light (VIS) and NIR illumination and imaging, the D-LIGHT P illumination source with footswitch for selecting between emission of VIS and NIR light, a 3-chip color HD video camera head capable of capturing both VIS and NIR imaging, a specially designed fiber-optic light cable, and a KARL STORZ ICG Kit.
