KARL STORZ Promotes Medical Training Worldwide

17/05/2024

Participants of the Sinus Academy were able to practice video endoscopic procedures in the field of paranasal sinus and skull base surgery at the Institute of Clinical Anatomy and Cell Analysis at the University of Tübingen.

Tuttlingen, May 21, 2024 – KARL STORZ has a tradition of promoting the further training of doctors across a broad medical spectrum. Last year, the company supported around 700 international events and workshops in over 16 specialist areas, with around 400 taking place in Germany. These training courses, such as the recent Sinus Academy at the Institute for Clinical Anatomy and Cell Analysis at the University of Tübingen, are of crucial importance as they help physicians continuously improve their skills so that every move is perfect – especially in vital situations.

The latest surgical techniques with state-of-the-art instruments from Tuttlingen

The Sinus Academy at the Institute of Clinical Anatomy and Cell Analysis at the University of Tübingen offers an excellent opportunity for physicians worldwide to expand their skills in the field of paranasal sinus and skull base surgery. Under the direction of Professor Rainer Weber, Associate Professor Tanja Hildenbrand, Professor Werner Hosemann, Professor Thomas Kühnel, Dr. Caroline Seebauer and Dr. Annette Zimmermann, the latest and most gentle surgical techniques were once again taught in April - equipped with modern technology from KARL STORZ. The participants in the ENT advanced training course had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with challenging procedures in the maxillary sinus, frontal and sphenoid sinuses, and at the base of the skull, allowing them to further develop their medical and surgical skills.

Precise and routine interventions

The use of full HD video endoscopy and a large set of microsurgical instruments enabled the physicians to work with high precision under top quality regulation operating room conditions. The training is of crucial importance as it prepares the participants for complex procedures that require precision and skill, but also safety and goal-oriented work. The individual steps of an operation were demonstrated live by the course instructor on large 4K monitors before everyone got hands-on. "Operations in the ENT field are changing faster and faster due to the constant development of technology and medical knowledge. This makes it all the more important that our guests from Germany and abroad receive intensive training opportunities at the Sinus Academy and continue their education. If they have any questions, we are always on hand with help and advice. We also provide inspiring lectures, medical expertise and the latest scientific findings," said Professor Weber. "The anatomy department at the University of Tübingen offers perfect conditions for this. The physicians work here under our guidance and can see and try out the use of a variety of instruments from KARL STORZ. This gives them excellent training for these complex procedures in their own operating theaters," added Professor Hosemann. Dr. Anthony Po Wing Yuen journeyed across the world to attend, highlighting the value and importance of the training: "I traveled all the way from Hong Kong because we don't have a seminar like this here. I am therefore very happy to be able to take part in the Sinus Academy," he said.
