Schiller’s Iodine Test

Iodine is used to delineate the border of the lesion.

Iodine is used to delineate the border of the lesion.

Schiller’s iodine test is applied to the cervix prior to loop excision. Also the upper vagina is stained with 3% iodine solution in order to detect or exclude involvement of the vaginal vault. Care must be taken to make sure that the area of resection includes the iodine-positive margins, which however, should be kept as small as possible. Alternatively LSIL in the periphery of the ectocervix is not excised and treated by laser vaporisation.
