Partial iodine uptake by a lesion may indicate the presence of low-grade SIL. Colposcopic findings in a 47-year-old gravida 2, para 2 with no prior history of disease are presented. Her cervical smear was reported as class IIID1. High risk HPV DNA and RNA were detected. Colposcopy shows a circular atypical T-zone type 1 with partial iodine uptake, classified as grade 1 (minor change) abnormal colposcopic finding.
Histopathology of a central tissue sample taken at 12 o’clock by punch biopsy shows thinned, atypical squamous epithelium in which expression of the immune marker Ki67 extends into the middle third of the epithelium, while p16 is detected only at low concentration in the upper cell layers. The histopathologic diagnosis is grade 1 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN 1).
