The advanced surgical solutions from KARL STORZ are found in many hospitals around the globe. There are already over 12,000 installations worldwide – and the number is constantly growing.

The success story of the world-renowned family-owned company KARL STORZ, headquartered in Tuttlingen, began 80 years ago. The goal of the visionary instrument maker and company founder Dr. med. h. c. Karl Storz was to enable physicians to examine hidden body cavities and to provide medical science with previously unavailable diagnostic and therapeutic tools.

To this end, he developed high-quality endoscopes that revolutionized minimally invasive surgery and continue to shape it today. Numerous innovations followed, including high-end camera and imaging systems as well as networked operating rooms. With smart solutions, products and services that seamlessly integrate, the company is doing more than ever to help the medical world achieve excellence and improve the lives of many patients.

KARL STORZ offers a smart ecosystem

For Dr. Karl Storz, the company founder who passed away in 1996, one principle was always clear: “I only stopped working when I was completely convinced of the quality of my work and could confidently say I would use it to treat my own family members, he said. Since its establishment in 1945, KARL STORZ has been characterized by precision, quality, and a spirit of innovation. What began as a small startup has grown over the decades into a globally successful MedTech company with approximately 9,800 employees worldwide.

Another pivotal milestone for this family-owned business, now in its third generation, was its transformation into a solutions provider. Today, the Tuttlingen based company equips its healthcare partners not only with high-end endoscopes and high-resolution imaging solutions but has also successfully implemented over 12,000 integrated operating room installations globally. Moreover, KARL STORZ is renowned for its exoscopes. The recently launched VITOM® eagle system enables crystal-clear imaging in microsurgery, facilitating procedures in ergonomically challenging positions. Cutting-edge hardware is one thing, but it is the digital and networked software systems of KARL STORZ that have been continuously refined. The digital ecosystem for modern medicine that has been created this way covers numerous specialties and is recognized worldwide for its excellence.

Leveraging new technologies

While technologies are rapidly evolving, the goal of KARL STORZ remains constant: as a reliable and innovative company, KARL STORZ aims to explore and develop future possibilities for the medical world. The company’s latest developments use artificial intelligence for various applications in the operating room, as well as for precise 3D modeling of organs and tumors based on conventional MRI or CT images. But that’s not all: with the acquisition of Asensus Surgical in August 2024, KARL STORZ is driving the adoption of robotic applications, paving the way for the next era of minimally invasive surgery and setting its sights on revolutionizing the medical world once again. The health and well-being of people inspire the KARL STORZ team every day to explore new
approaches and tackle challenges together – ensuring that numerous innovations from Tuttlingen will continue to be brought to the world over the next 80 years.
