Tuttlingen, 13.03.2020: Although KARL STORZ is best known as a global leader in endoscopy and operating room integration, the family owned company also equips examination rooms around the world. Six OFFICE1 Diamond rooms have recently been installed in the newly built ENT center at the IPS Central Hospital, which thus became the only hospital with integrated examination rooms in the whole of Paraguay. More than 250 patients can now be treated in the new ENT polyclinic ambulatory assistance center every day. “In the past, our ENT center had only one examination room with common chairs. We could not perform any kind of auxiliary study such as endoscopy, nasofibroscopy or cauterization of nasal veins. Not even simple earwash procedures were possible. With the new installation of OFFICE1, we can now offer integral treatments and diagnosis,” says Dr. Federico Rivarola Benítez, Head of the Otolaryngology service at IPS and President of the Paraguayan Society of Otolaryngology.
The "Instituto de Prevision Social" (IPS) is the national organization for social security in Paraguay, which provides health care as well as retirement and disability benefits to all Paraguayan workers. Within this concept, the IPS Central Hospital is the most important institution for health care and medical teaching, where most medical and surgical specialties are available to beneficiaries including family members. It has more than 1,200 beds and the total number of insured exceeds 1,300,000 users.
In the course of the new construction of the ENT building in 2019, the examination rooms were installed with state-of-the-art equipment including racks for storing instruments, a modern treatment chair and special back walls on both sides to hide cabling and the connections for fresh and wastewater. The use of solid surface materials supports the reduction of bacterial growth or limits it to a minimum. The additional integration of the KARL STORZ documentation system AIDA®, the camera system IMAGE1 S™, a high-end treatment microscope and high definition monitors result in the best possible workflow for the doctor and the active involvement of the patient in the treatment. “Thanks to the equipment and professional support from KARL STORZ, we are now able to perform very important diagnostic treatments and methods”, adds Dr. Federico Rivarola Benítez.
